One might have noticed at the end of Layers, and possibly other times, that the door was absent. I don't think people would have unleashed torches and pitchforks at a perceived continuity error, but I was going to address Tedd's ongoing interest in it anyway, so I provided an explanation for the mysteriously vanishing door.
What I imagine WOULD have resulted in torches and pitchforks, however, would have been them not saying "pressure release chopsticks" at least three times.
