This is an RPG reference, specifically Dungeons & Dragons. Probably others, too, but hey, D&D is where I know it from.

Granted, I haven't actually played it much at all myself. I THINK this would be a wisdom check, though it makes me wonder if there are other skills or stats that might impact the results. In fact, I'm sure there are. I'm just too inexperienced to know what they would be.

Of course, the point could be moot. I'm pretty sure "pop culture knowledge" isn't a skill listed in The Player's Handbook.
