Me: This next comic will be a flick of the wrist to draw with Tedd just talking to Kevin.

Also me: SUPER ULTRA WIZARD NANASE IN A NEW OUTFIT!

Me: Buy why

Also me: PLAID SKIRT!

Me: Okay, FINE.

The idea that the bonus physical strength from magic came at the consequence at being less powerful at magic in general was just something I thought would be a neat thing to bring up, but I think it also naturally explains what the deal with magic-powered martial arts is.

Like, if you have a natural aptitude for magic energy, and that energy decides "I'm going to enhance your muscles now," it makes perfect sense (narratively, anyway) that magic powers specific to martial arts could manifest. It's a different way to access and use magic energy without "properly" awakening magic like a more traditional magic user.

It's not so much a different form of magic as it is the same magic manifesting itself differently within someone. It happens more easily for people with a natural aptitude, but I think it makes sense that anyone could accomplish it with the right training.

I now imagine where "Anime Martial Arts" fell short was figuring out how to make it accessible to people who needed to build up magic energy reserves first. If you naturally had some, Greg could get you started, but there was a missing first step for everyone else.

For now, this is just an explanation bubbling unexpectedly in my mind-brain, but I suspect I'll find somewhere to make it canon by being in-comic (possibly a Q&A, if necessary).
