I'd say that would be pretty awkward, yes indeed.
- Diane and Noah talking about Raven and where he's been
- (Several pages later) Noah's actual explanation of where Raven is
- Tedd's offer, and confirmation that Raven has intermittently been out of town a lot (not constantly out of town)
IN SUMMARY...
Even after writing it, I somehow expected Edward's summary to only take up a third of a five panel page (effectively two panels were it six panels).
I'm not sure how I thought that, but I did.
Making sure we're on the same page
Summarizing to make certain I actually get what someone means is something I tend to do, though not how it's portrayed here. I'll say my understanding of what someone has said as we're talking so they can confirm and correct as we go. I'm generally not going to sit there and wait through the whole thing, and only then do a big summary like this.
An exception to the big summary could be if what they're telling me are instructions. Me going through the instructions as I understand them at the end, giving them a chance to say "whoa there, no, what the heck even" is a thing I might do.
In any case, the quick little summaries aren't that difficult to do (so long as they are genuinely quick). It contributes to the flow of conversation, and lets them know you're paying attention.
What Edward is doing here isn't really an example of doing that, it being a big summary after hearing everything for the sake of story flow, but I wanted to talk about it because I definitely support the idea of making sure everyone's actually getting each other.
