I planned this without deciding on the explanation for how it was pulled off, and pretty much last minute settled on "cheats off" because it winds up with the simplest explanations. I can think of some other ways it could be explained, but they feel more convoluted and messy.

It's a fantastic feeling to have written something happening only for the explanation to be "insert technical explanation here". Made me feel like a writer on Star Trek.
