- "Modest? You just said you were beautiful!"
Before anyone says anything, Bishop isn't being weird in panel two. She's simply noting a social advantage she would have liked everyone, possibly including Cinderella, to have.
...
Okay, maybe it's a little weird to actually say it out loud at breakfast.
Rivers
That visual in panel one was a very late idea, and the result of making adjustments to Bishop's dialogue at the time of settling on the panel and text layout for this comic. Curves somehow gave way to rivers, and by the time I was finished putting my pile of words together, I wanted a visual for it.
I emerged from the winding rapids I'd fallen into with an extra bit of Bishop characterization, and I think it will be kept canon: She's prejudiced towards women of certain appearances.
Deciding canon based on such a thing is potentially silly, but it's potentially fun, too. A lot of character traits are simply a result of building on the little things that come up in their stories.
There is, however, another reason to keep it. Canon Bishop doesn't care for Edward Verres. Edward is the former husband of Noriko, and current fiancé to Lavender. There's plenty of room for her prejudice to actually be relevant on-panel, even if just subtly implied.
In short, it's yet another opportunity for Bishop to be a jerk, and that's useful for me.
