Behold the Massive Portrait Comic
This is a test of a potential portrait style that EGS story comics may switch to. While this test manages to test everything I felt needed testing, I wish I had been wiser in selecting what would be going on in the comic. Between "Gothic Lolita" Tedd and "Shrunk Maid" Elliot, this comic took me forever. The good news is that it was more digital inking that took forever than anything caused by the portrait format itself. There were some technical glitches, but most of those were glitches I've also faced with landscape format.
Something else I experimented with was more varied brushes and less rounded tips for certain lines. Most of the benefit of that is barely visible in the low-res version, so I'm not sure if that will become standard. It will depend on if people can genuinely notice a positive difference and how the high-res printouts turn out.
Fun facts: Elliot's design in the last two panels is something I had some difficulty with, and I have no idea what I wound up with. Looks sorta maid like, but I dunno. As Tedd points out, almost every article of clothing is held on via easily undone knots, and Elliot is indeed shrunk, but not as much as people usually are in EGS. She is at about 75% size, making her about four feet tall. Tedd's five foot four in this comic, but both of them are wearing those bizarre platform shoes, making Tedd effectively 5 foot 9 inches and Elliot 4 foot 3 inches. Given EGS proportions, I believe this leaves Elliot about eye level with Tedd's chest.
What? Those were fun facts. They don't have to be important to anything ^^;
Seriously though, any criticism regarding this as a possible format for the story comics is more than welcome, along with any other comments. If you can notice a difference in the line work, for good or bad, I'd like to hear about that, too.
